Frettens Solicitors is delighted to report that it has been recognised in specialist areas of 'The Legal 500' again for 2017-18. This marks the eighth year in a row that the firm has been recognised by the independently researched guide to law firms in the UK.
Legal 500 is generally recognised as the largest and most in-depth survey of the UK legal market. It is compiled based on client feedback and the complexity of cases handled. The region in which Frettens are ranked covers the whole of Dorset and Wiltshire.
This year, each of the firm's Partners are recommended, along with three notable Associates who are also highlighted.
The firm was ranked third in the region in the Legal 500 for Corporate and Commercial work, mentioning each of our three Commercial Solicitors, Partner Matthew Fretten and, for the first time, Associates Karen Edwards and Sarah Sillar. The team were commended for being "professional and timely" and "demonstrating appropriate levels of technical knowledge" related to mergers, acquisitions, share transactions and general commercial advice.
The firm's Dispute Resolution Team is described as "outstanding" and "quick to ascertain issues and understands the complexities involved in matters from the outset". Michelle Hayter, Partner and Head of the team, is recognised for being "prompt and knowledgeable" and Partner Carl Geary is highlighted for the first time in the directory for his ability to "see through the inevitable noise involved in litigation".
Paul Burton and Kate Fretten from the Employment Team are recommended, with the team ranked as second in the region. They are described as having has experience in advising on employment issues in relation to business reorganisations, including handling ensuing redundancies and senior management exits. Paul Burton is reported as "very helpful in all aspects" and delivering "pragmatic, clear and useful advice".
Dual quailfied tax adviser and Head of Wills & Tax, Lee Young, is appreciated for "explaining complex legal matters in simple, understandable language", for providing "bespoke advice that reflects his clients’ needs" and for advising individuals whose estates value up to £5m. This area is considered across the whole of the South West so our team is ranked amongst some of the country's biggest firms from Bristol, Cheltenham and Exeter.
Oonagh McKinney, Partner and Head of Commercial Property, is recognised for her advice to regional developers, corporate tenants in purchases and lease transactions and also in portfolio management and real estate finance. Clare Hallett is also mentioned for the first time, for her leadership of the firm’s residential property team and her specialist experience in residential sale and purchase transactions. The team are listed as third in the area.
Managing Partner, Matthew Fretten, says: "My team and I strive to deliver the best possible service to each of our clients. Naturally, it is nice to be recognised for this level of service and the quality of the advice. We are delighted that every one of our Partners at the firm has been noted as leaders in their respective fields, alongside several of our Associates. This is not only recognition of the expertise and standing of the leaders within our firm, but a reflection of the hard work put in from each and every member of our teams, which significantly contributes to each recommendation."
