The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, has this afternoon announced that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is being extended by one month to the end of June. When he originally announced the scheme he did say it would be kept under review and may be extended.
The extension has been announced on the back of yesterday’s decision to extend the current lockdown period by another three weeks. The Chancellor said the decision to extend the scheme is the right one given that the severe social distancing measures need to continue. He also stated the scheme will continue to be reviewed and there is a distinct possibility it may be extended further again.
